Spencer Dixon is running for Delegate because too many people feel like our economy isn’t working for them and our democracy isn’t responding to them. Born and raised in Anne Arundel County, he holds a deep commitment to public service.
Having come of age in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, Spencer’s family experienced the uncertainty and struggle that too many are forced to overcome daily. He saw his mother, diagnosed with a chronic illness before ACA protections for pre-existing conditions, spend long afternoons fighting with insurance companies when she should have been focused on healing. This instance, and the knowledge that it was happening in millions of homes across the country, was Spencer’s political awakening and first call to service.
Spencer spent five years on the campaigns of Democrats who fought for fairness. When not organizing for those candidates and causes, he worked for a nonprofit promoting ACA enrollment and earned his Master’s in Public Policy with a focus on health care. After organizing in the 2022 midterms in Maryland, Spencer served as Senator Dawn Gile’s Legislative Director, helping to pass legislation that meets the critical needs of Anne Arundel County residents. He now works for the Maryland Prescription Drug Affordability Board where he continues his fight for a more affordable and fair Maryland.
An organizer, a public servant, and a fighter, Spencer is ready to amplify the voices of working Marylanders and build a strong community for all.
