Nikhil is running to fight for working families, strengthen public education, and bring real accountability to Montpelier. The son of Indian immigrants, Nikhil is a sociologist, educator, and policymaker who has spent his career turning research into action. A leader in the fight against Act 73, Nikhil helped organize and speak at more than a dozen town halls and rallies across Vermont with Vermont School Workers United, and brought that same fight to Washington as senior policy advisor to Senator Bernie Sanders on education and children’s issues from 2021 to 2023.
He is the author of Live to See the Day: Coming of Age in American Poverty, named a Best Book of 2023 by The New Yorker, praised by the Washington Post and Winner of the 2024 Media for a Just Society Award. He lives in Burlington and, if elected, will be a needed fighter for working families in the Vermont State Senate.
